Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings Wins the 2008 STI/SPFA Affiliate Product of the Year Award
Duraplate® UHS Epoxy Coating with Opti-Check Optically Active Pigment Technology Wins Top Honors
CLEVELAND, Ohio (July 15, 2008) – A Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coating has been selected as the 2008 Product of the Year by the Steel Tank Institute/Steel Plate Fabricator’s Association (STI/SFPA). Sherwin-Williams was selected for its new Duraplate® UHS Ultra High Solids Epoxy with fluorescing Optically Active Pigments (OAP).
Duraplate UHS with OAP was evaluated by STI/SFPA affiliate members and was found to maintain its film thickness along edges, helping to extend the service life of painted, submerged structures—a crucial factor considering corrosion generally begins on the edges of these structures. The award is given annually to recognize suppliers for an innovation considered the most helpful new product for use by STI/SFPA fabricators.
“We’re pleased to receive the Product of the Year award from the Steel Tank Institute. The Affiliate Tank and Pipe Section members who made this choice look for unique methods or products with high value to member fabricators,” said Tony Ippoliti, Senior Corrosion Specification Specialist, Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings. “This award confirms that our company continues to develop coatings that solve the corrosion problems our customers tell us are the most challenging to their business.”
Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Coatings’ Duraplate UHS with OAP is the only product of its type meeting the requirements of NSF Standard 61 for potable water tanks of at least 1,000 gallons. It is also chemical and hydrocarbon solutionresistant, making it well-suited for the shop-fabricated tanks segment of STI/SFPA.
STI/SPFA is an association serving companies that fabricate steel tanks, pipe, and pressure vessels for use in the petroleum, food, water and chemical processing industries. In addition to serving fabricators of steel tanks, pipe and pressure vessels, STI/SPFA provides certification and training courses for steel tank and pipe, performs quality assurance inspections, develops industry standards and specifications, produces safety manuals, and serves as a liaison to regulatory and code authorities.
STI/SPFA recognizes member companies within specific industry categories with its Steel Fabricated Product of the Year Awards. The 2008 awards were presented in February.
