“We understand that some people might be doing this work at 9 pm on a Sunday night. This site gives them an e-rep, 24-7...”

Input from specifiers, owners and painting contractors has helped shape a new Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine website, which the company recently unveiled.

The site can be found at www.sherwin-williams.com/protective.

“We asked people at various levels in the protective and marine coatings business what they were looking for when they came to our site, and what they used it for,” says Kim Armstrong, Protective & Marine Manager of Communications. “What we found was that most of them were looking for very specific information on a product or system, so there’s a greater focus on the product. We categorized the content as a direct response to the way customers asked for it.”

Armstrong says that while the old protective and marine site organized information by industry, the new site was designed specifically to improve access to product information. The new site also eliminates the need to wade through Sherwin-Williams architectural products, or the various components of a single system to get specific product information.

Specifiers in particular figure to benefit from the increased emphasis on and accessibility of product information.

“We interviewed several specifiers and what they collectively told us was that they wanted to be sure they understood product information before contractors, owners or anyone else asked them about it,” says Armstrong. “So we wanted to develop a site that gave them quick, easy, precise product information—particularly in the form of MSDS or data pages.

“We also understand that some people might be doing research at home, at 9pmon a Sunday night, for example. This site gives them a Sherwin-Williams Protective and Marine e-rep, 24-7.”

Armstrong also notes that guideline specifications are downloadable for Sherwin-Williams flooring systems.

Also new to the site is the Knowledge Center, where visitors can find technical literature, case histories and an online version of Coatings Solutions Magazine. The Meet Our Experts section of the site introduces the Sherwin-Williams Protective & Marine Corrosion Specification Specialists, and outlines their experience and credentials. Access to industry information, such as links to NACE and SSPC sites, are also available.

“It’s continuously updated, and it’s live information,” says Armstrong. “I think our customers are really going to appreciate the new site.”
